Re: Borg2??
Tue, January 4, 2005 - 10:17 PMlots of stuff:
borg2.tribe.net/
we (area54) and i (me) haven't really formed any kind of opinion about it yet. it's interesting, and it's bringing a lot of energy back to bman, and hopefully back to the playa.
i do think that if they pull off what they hope to (and really i think there are a lot of encouraging signs that they will), it will be a very energized "neighborhood"
right now they're in the process (such as it is) of electing a curatorial leadership. like jacobins, chicken and jim mason are planning to step aside thereafter.
it seems like borg2 will have a neighborhood--maybe out at the end of one of the city's arms--to do with as they please
a lot of very impressive artists have signed onto the effort.
it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.

better keep that one @ arm's length. -

Re: Borg2??
Mon, January 10, 2005 - 11:58 PMChicken John, Jim Mason, and the folks involved in the Borg2 movement are long-time Burners and active artists who've done some amazing things for the BM community. Chicken owns the Odeon Bar in San Francisco, and Jim leads the Shipyard, an artist's space in Berkeley. These guys have been involved in organizing all sorts of cool events in the Bay Area for ages and ages... For example, the Shipyard was host to an SRL show, and these guys are some of the instigators behind the annual Powertool Races. The Odeon is also something of a clubhouse for certain communities of Burners in SF. Many of the people involved in Borg2 are the ones who've brought some (not all) of the large, well-developed and well-executed pieces of art to Burning Man. -

Re: Borg2??
Mon, January 17, 2005 - 11:47 PMYes yes yes, I know who Chicken John is... I was at the Power Tool Drag races too.
Unfortunately, Mr. Chicken was a bit of a turd (like, with a PA system) to someone whom had put a great deal of effort into that race, someone who I have worked with from time to time. Too bad, I like the Odeon and this same friend even had events there, giving the Odeon some decent business. Thus, I voice my apprehension.
So many super creative and super intense people in and around the BM community, I guess they all have a history and can rub each other's noses in it when they deem appropriate. I just call it like I see it...but, hey? Who the hell am I to say? -

Re: Borg2??
Wed, January 19, 2005 - 9:27 PMI hadn't been following it all that closely, but this is DEFINITELY a Burning Man related project... a bit chaotic and random. I find it amusing that among the candidates for the Arts Council are: Michael Michael, one of the 5 people who control the Burning Man LLC -- but one that doesn't have anything to do with the art right now and one of the guys who brought Cacophony into the BM scene way back when... and Rachel, who admits that she's never been to Burning Man but is very enthusiastic. I mean if that isn't a Burning Man election, I don't know what is. -

Re: Borg2??
Sun, January 23, 2005 - 9:50 PMsounds like organized chaos...
and, my sister's name is Rachel too, though she told me that she's never be found dead at Burning Man... but she lives down in Orange County, so I don't what the hell is going on there.
Ok, let's do it!

Re: Borg2??
Wed, February 9, 2005 - 9:18 AMPeople who say that they'd never be caught dead at Burning Man are silly and self-pugilating. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Re: Borg2??
Sun, February 20, 2005 - 1:26 PMYeah, Corey, at the next BMan I claim first rights to giving you 2005 lashings with your choice of noodle (wet or dry). PB's comment wasn't used in a context of dis to BRC, it was just a silly offhand remark, quoting his *sister*..... I recommend reading a bit slower with a little more attention. Even if this was someone who wasn't on good terms with his sis, it's really not a good idea to take the liberty of talking smack about her.
The wise words: "Why get offended?" always apply, but it's easier to take that advice when someone is talking about non-interest in your favorite event than when someone is using insulting adjectives to refer to your family member.
compassionately yours,
