Every year when I camp with Hookahdome I come away with memories of some of those tasty beats. My first year it was Govinda's Entwined and Entranced and Warren's Magic Carpet Mix (especially Green Velvet's Destination Unknown, what a great moment of dancing on the Carpet!).
The next year, 2002, the big song was, apparently Burning Ring of Fire.
2003 I fondly recall lots of Lemon Jelly and Boards of Canada and Royksopp's Eple (or Epie) on the Carpet.
This year, what's it gonna be?
* Digital Underground's We're Freaks of the Industry
* The second or third song from the Black Light Performers, goddamit who's the artist? Soren, please listen to the music in your videotape and maybe we can glean a song title off it.
* Shpongle. I'm listening to some of their stuff now. yummy. Get some of this music on the carpet for next year. :)
* some calming and exotic tibetan bells or gamelon music I heard in the wee hours thursday night after the pyjama party. It was probably 4 am.
* The Culprits playing in the dome one morning. I could hear their music across the playa almost to the Man.
* Er, how about Foreigner's I want to know what love is? Playing on the carpet that quiet and lazy friday morning.
* always always Boards of Canada. Can someone help me find the Alpha Quest remix of "Roygbiv" ?
Got any others?

Re: Themesongs of Hookahdome 2004
Mon, September 20, 2004 - 9:39 PMThe entire album, 'Arabica'. It got played a bunch during the week.
One other thing, I'm planning to put together a 2-disc compilation of all the music I played to give out to my campmates. -

Re: Themesongs of Hookahdome 2004
Mon, October 11, 2004 - 4:24 PMHi Hookahdomers!
Wanted to tell you how much I *loved* hanging out in your camp!! It was my 3rd Burn and every year the Hookahdome has been one of the highlights for me! Thank you. I was part of Brane (the Meow Palace on 7 and Earth) this year, Pollination the last and Playaquarium my first year...
So, I have been *dying* to know what the music was that you guys played on Friday night - probably midnight to 4am?? (who knows if that was the time - but it was somewhere in there!)
Also, would love to get the 2-disc compilation if possible - I would love to send you a gift (I'm in SF) or $$ if preferred...
So, based on this thread, I've been trying to track down some of the music mentioned - does the album Arabica refer to (1) 1001% Arabica: An Introduction to Rai or (2) CHEB KHALED & CHEB MAMI:100% ARABICA or (3) neither :-)
Thanks so much for your help and thank you for bringing a beautiful gift to the playa :-)

Re: Themesongs of Hookahdome 2004
Mon, October 11, 2004 - 5:33 PMI think the album Arabica is none of the above. It's off the Bar de Lune label. It's the first thing that pops up on Amazon.com is one uses the search term "arabica". Note that volumes II and III of in the series are not so good.
The music on Friday night after midnight was played by a friend of the camp who's name is Michael. I'm not sure that he's on tribe. I can see if there is a playlist if you're interested.

Re: Themesongs of Hookahdome 2004
Mon, October 11, 2004 - 5:35 PMHi Maya,
The Arabica cd is, correct me if I'm wrong Heath, a various artists cd simply called Arabica. Amazon has it here: www.amazon.com/exec/obido...390-4928669
Or simply do a search at amazon for Arabica and it comes up first. I certainly wouldn't call it authenic arabic music, but more Arabesque and obviously they couldn't call it that because there is already a cd called Arabesque (which is also tasty).
Friday night's music...wasn't that Michael B's night? I remember waking up around 4 am hearing some beautiful chime/gong music that made me think of Tibet. Does something like that ring a bell? -

Re: Themesongs of Hookahdome 2004
Mon, October 11, 2004 - 5:36 PMI wouldn't call it "authentic" either. Please excuse my poor typing skills.

Re: Themesongs of Hookahdome 2004
Mon, October 11, 2004 - 6:30 PMThanks so much, Heath and Rosminah!
Am listening to the Amz sampler and I think this album was definitely played when I was in the Hookahdome - it is quite delicious! (though more so lying on a warm dusty kilim with shisha and mint tea :-) And, yes, I remember some Tibetan-esque chime/gongs later that night....a playlist from Michael B would be much appreciated...
Thanks much! -

Re: Themesongs of Hookahdome 2004 -PLAYLIST
Tue, October 12, 2004 - 12:18 PMOh My Gosh! Wow!! Thanks sooooo much!
Please pass on my heartfelt exuberant thanks to Michael B! Fri night in the Hookahdome is one of my best memories from this year: It was freezing, we had waited outside forever (but made friends!) and when we finally got inside, we spent an ethereal few hours in the dusty warmth of the dome watching the curling wisps of smoke as this music wafted over us....the essence of Burning Man....
Thanks again and I wish you many delicious cheesecakes :-)

Re: Themesongs of Hookahdome 2004
Mon, October 11, 2004 - 7:46 PMThere are three albums called "Arabesque". There's a "Rough Guide", which is so-so, there's one that I'm not familiar with and there's one with a camel on the cover. The one with the camel on the cover is the best one.
One of my favorite tracks off of Arabica is number 3. One has to have a beefy subwoofer to really appreciate it, though. It's the one that goes da la la la DWOOOOOM.... -
