BODYMOD IN QUEER CULTURE
Wednesday, June 7 from 7-10pm
A FREE symposium examining the role of queer consciousness in the development of contemporary body modification: body piercing, tattooing, cutting, fetish play, hook pulls and suspensions, BDSM, transgenderism and the Modern Primitive movement.
Moderated by Fakir Musafar, father of the Modern Primitive Movement
Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender panelists:
Tod Almightly – a modified gay body piercer from Anatometal body jewelry and a teacher in the Fakir Intensives body piercing school in San Francisco.
Sharrin Spector – a woman’s advocate, piercing and tattoo enthusiast, body piercer and brander, owner and operator of Pierce/Ink body piercing and tattoo studio in San Jose.
Cleo Dubois – a world-renown bisexual and bikinky dominant, ritualist, filmmaker and owner of Cleo Dubois Academy of SM Arts.
Dylan Vade – a female to male transsexual and creator of “Trannymals”, artistic creations made from modified genitals.
The evening will include Fakir’s presentation of rare historical video and images tracing the birth of contemporary body piercing and bodymod practices in the queer community. There will also be clips from Cleo Dubois’s film “The Pain Game.” The symposium concludes will audience/panel Q&A.
